Rampaging Boko Haram fighters raze Emir’s palace in fresh Yobe attack

Rampaging Boko Haram fighters Saturday afternoon burnt a section of the Emir of Jajare’s Palace in Babangida, headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Tarmuwa is about 53km from Damaturu, the state capital.

Reports say the insurgents entered the town in a commando-style and headed straight to the monarch’s palace but he had left the palace two hours before the arrival of the insurgents.

The angry insurgents later burnt a section of the palace and took away a Hilux van from the premises.

Another resident of Babangida told our correspondent that the insurgents were on a mission to eliminate the District Head in a revenge mission.

Yobe and Borno are two theatres of operations for the Boko Haram insurgents since the group started its jihad war against the country in 2009.

The group has become more proficient in carrying out attacks since a 2009 clash with security forces that led to the death of its leader, Mohammed Yusuf.

Since then, it has either claimed or been blamed for numerous attacks on the Nigerian government and civilian targets.

The group in 2011 launched a deadly attack on the state capital and among the targets hit were the headquarters of the state police command, several government buildings, and two banks, as well as six churches.
